New Director of Wyoming Department of Agriculture

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Matt Mead has appointed Doug Miyamoto as the new Director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. Miyamoto will assume the duties of the Director on March 15, 2015.

 “Wyoming has 11,000 farms and ranches which make ag Wyoming’s #3 industry,” Governor Mead said. “Doug is a Wyoming native, experienced in rangeland management and water rights.  He understands Wyoming agriculture and I appreciate his willingness to serve in this important capacity.”

Miyamoto currently serves as the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Wyoming Livestock Board. Doug graduated from Rawlins High School and attended the University of Wyoming earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Rangeland Ecology from the University of Wyoming. He also worked as a Water Rights Analyst in the State Engineer’s Office and as a Rangeland Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Miyamoto served as Agency Liaison to the Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts and as the Agency Liaison to the Western Governors’ Association.  In 2011, he was appointed as Deputy Director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. 

"It is an honor to be appointed by Governor Mead to be the next Director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture.  I am looking forward to serving the people that comprise Wyoming's agriculture industry,” Miyamoto said.

USDA to Reopen all FSA Offices for Most Services During Government Shutdown

All Farm Service Agency (FSA) service centers will be open beginning January 24 to provide the majority of FSA services needed by farmers and ranchers during this critical time of the year for agricultural operations. Additionally, the limited FSA loan services initially made available at certain FSA county offices beginning January 17 will continue January 22 and 23.
