MSU Displays Commitment to Montana Wool Growers

MSU Displays Commitment to Montana Wool Growers

For 134 years the Montana Wool Growers Association has been a voice for the state's sheep producers. Over the last century, the issues impacting the industry may have changed, but the commitment to enhancing the sheep industry has remained the same.

For several months the MWGA and it's members have been spending countless hours, days of travel, meetings and phone calls to raise a red flag about the vacant Montana State University Sheep Extension Specialist position. The job was in limbo due to the Montana State budget crisis. With a budget fix announced by Helena, the budget cuts to the MSU College of Agriculture and Extension Services were much less than anticipated.

Montana State University, the Sheep Extension Specialist along with the Montana Wool Lab, is one of the last institutions in the nation that research, education and wool sampling takes place. The sheep and wool program and it's research are vital to the future of the American sheep industry.

Today, Dr. Pat Hatfield, Department head for the MSU College of Agriculture's Animal and Range Science Department, informed convention attendees that MSU has officially announced that they have reopened the job search to fill the MSU Sheep Extension job.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication from the MWGA and it's members the leadership at MSU and the College of Agriculture put the essential extension role as a top priority.
