Janice Mattson, a Chester, MT farmer and Chair of the U.S. Wheat Associates, was in Washington, D.C. this week for a joint meeting between U.S. Wheat and the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG). Coming out of those meetings, she had two interesting bits of new to share.
First, it was found in a recent study that for every $1.00 that is spent on the promotion of U.S. wheat, $23 comes back to the producers here at home.
Janice talked more about the study.
The second of Janice’s two announcements was about a joint policy paper signed by U.S. Wheat and NAWG. The paper, entitled “Principles of Collaboration,” deals with how it is handled when a new trait is released. Janice says that this will deal mostly with genetically modified traits.
She talks more about the “Principles of Collaboration.”
Janice says that the specifics of how the release of traits will be handled haven’t been decided just yet. They just want to make sure that U.S. Wheat, NAWG and the universities are all on the same page.
