One of the most popular sportscasters in our region, Rocky Erickson has been responsible for the play-by-play coverage of thousands of high school and college ball games since he began his career in broadcasting in 1982. Erickson is a nine-time winner of the "Montana Sportscaster of the Year" award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, solid evidence of the respect that his peers have for his work.
Each weekday Rocky produces "Montana Sports" radio programs for the Northern News Network. Regular listeners of "Montana Sports" are continually amazed by the historical detail and human perspective that Rocky Erickson brings to his show. A walking encyclopedia of Montana athletic history, Erickson features the voices of dozens of guests on his show each month, along with the scores and the highlights of Montana sporting events, large and small.
Raised on family's eastern Montana wheat farm at Vida, Rocky Erickson graduated from High School in Wolf Point; received his degree in Telecommunications from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia; and spent 10 years with the Enterprise Network working for their radio stations in Glendive and in Billings. From 1993 to 2018, Rocky was a full-time employee of Northern Broadcasting, where he helped lead the development of the Northern News Network.
Rocky and his wife Kristi have two children and make their home in Billings where he continues to enjoy producing free-lance sportscasts.
