Running water has made “Mother’s Day” a little easier today than it was in 1902. James Harper Tappan took this photograph of Carrie Dunn as she washed dishes in her ranch kitchen papered with news print.

The Montana Historical Society launched a web site last year, “Women’s History Matters,” to honor the contributions of women to Montana history and heritage.  As you celebrate Mother’s Day this year, you might sit down at the computer with mom, and visit www.montanawomenshistory.org to learn more about women’s contributions beyond the kitchen.
