After nearly three decades of leadership, American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) Executive Director Peter Orwick has announced he will step away from his role on November 7.
Orwick, who joined ASI in 1997, told Northern Ag Network’s Andy Schwab, the timing aligns with the organization’s annual audit and offers a smooth transition for the next leader. “I’m not old enough to retire, but I’m old enough to retire from ASI,” he said. “Wrapping up the audit is just the cleanest way to hand things off.”
During his tenure, Orwick helped guide ASI out of debt, secure funding for wool programs, and strengthen the organization’s presence in Washington, D.C. He cited recent progress on wool funding and ongoing efforts to address lamb imports and risk management as key priorities before his departure.
Under his leadership, ASI established major programs in lamb promotion, wool export, and domestic marketing, turning what was once a struggling association into a financially stable, unified industry voice.
ASI has opened the search for its next Executive Director, with applications accepted through October 31, 2025. The full-time position, based in Denver, Colorado, offers a minimum salary of $175,000 plus benefits, with hybrid potential depending on the candidate.
