Before Branding Moved into the Corporate Board Room

Long before Nike invented its “swoosh,” branding was the only game in town to keep the rustlers at bay. Cowboys ply their trade in this 1890s photograph taken near Little Pumpkin Creek. The photo was taken by legendary Miles City photographer L.A. Huffman. The Montana Historical Society has a large collection of Huffman’s work that will be enjoyed by many future generations of Montanans.
