Bing Moves from “President” to “King Bing”

by

The 2014 Commodity Classic is still going strong in San Antonio, TX although some farmers have started to make the journey home.  While it’s good to sleep in one’s own bed, there seems to be some reluctance of many to leave for colder temperatures.

The annual conventions of the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG), National Sorghum Producers (NSP), National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), and American Soybean Association (ASA) will be held again next year in Arizona.

One highlight for the Northern Ag Network during this week’s convention has been the fact that a farmer from our region is the NAWG President.  Bing Von Bergen is a great friend of ours and brought his wife Lois with him from the town of Moccasin, Montana.  His children, Tana and Tyler, were also able to attend.  As of Thursday, Bing handed the gavel over to Paul Penner of Hillsboro, Kansas.  In our eyes, that means that President Bing is now “King Bing”!

Bing’s presidency has been focused on the passage of a farm bill which, towards the end of that term, was thankfully passed.  Now he says the Association can start to focus more on other issues including their support of biotechnology.  In the near-term, though, much of their work is going to be looking at implementing that legislation that we waited so long for.
