Beef product development group, heifer selection part of Laramie workshop
Heifer development, parasite management and a presentation from a group that assists getting new beef products to market are part of the livestock workshop Monday, Feb. 9, in Laramie.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and sessions at 10 a.m. at the Albany County Fairgrounds, said Kellie Chichester, University of Wyoming Extension educator. Sessions end at 2:45 p.m.
The workshop is free, and lunch is provided.
A representative from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Beef Innovations Group will present from 10-11:30 a.m. how the group works with consumer product manufacturers, packers and processors who need beef expertise and help with developing new products.
Others sessions are:
* 11:30-noon – “Stream issues and watershed study in the Laramie River watershed,” Tony Hoch, water quality specialist, director, Laramie Rivers Conservation District
* 12:30-1:30 p.m. – “Cattle parasite ecology and management as influenced by drought and elevation,” Derek Scasta, extension range management specialist
* 1:45-2:45 p.m. – “Heifer development and selection strategies,” Steve Paisley, extension beef specialist
