Less than a day after the details were released for the federal funding package that includes 31 billion in aid to farmers, the deal appeared to fall apart after President elect Trump, JD Vance and Elon Musk expressed desire to kill the overall bill on social media. Trump and Vance said republicans want to support farmers, but they want to see only a temporary funding bill without concessions to democrats.
In a statement, Trump and Vance said, “Republicans want to support our farmers, pay for disaster relief, and set our country up for success in 2025. The only way to do that is with a temporary funding bill WITHOUT DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS combined with an increase in the debt ceiling. Anything else is a betrayal of our country.”
In addition to 30 billion in disaster aid for agriculture, the bill includes 10 billion in economic aid with payments of 31 dollars per planted acre of wheat, barley 21 dollars, pulses between 16 and 24 dollars an acre, and corn at 43.
The funding bill expires Saturday which will result in a government shutdown with no action. Ag Groups are calling on their members to reach out to lawmakers and urge them to pass the CR with the economic aid to farmers.
