Fire Kills YNP Bison on Fort Peck Reservation

by

The Great Falls Tribune reports that two bison from the herd of Yellowstone National Park bison that were transplanted to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation are now dead because of a 13,000-acre fire in the bison pasture.

The fire is being called the “Brookman Fire” and as of Wednesday evening it was 50{6b02cb02835b82b7f756ddf6717aaab7139b350de274ea97f5b53eb230607107} contained.

They report that one of the animals lost was a bison cow that had to be put down after suffering severe burns.  The second, a calf, was found dead.

The cause of the fire, which started Tuesday evening, is still under investigation.  According to the Tribune, officials are “certain it wasn't caused by farm or ranch equipment.”
