Conditions across Wyoming continue to be very dry and unseasonably warm for this time of year. According to the latest National Ag Statistics Service crop weather report, the percent of range and pasture rated good or better fell 4 points from last week. The drying conditions have forced producers to begin moving livestock from summer pasture and in some cases have caused concern about stock water supplies. 81{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the state’s winter wheat is now planted, 18{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of sugarbeets are harvested and the corn harvested for silage, at 74{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4}, is now behind last year and the 5-year average.
Producers in Montana took advantage of the favorable conditions last week to make good progress in the harvest of small grains. According the National Ag Statistics Service Crop Weather Report, oats, durum and spring wheat all made large increases in the percent harvested. Roughly 19{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the spring wheat remains in the fields. Sugarbeets made a big jump and are now 21{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} harvested. 65{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of winter wheat has been planted and 60{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the corn for silage has been harvested.
That same favorable weather helped out in North and South Dakota. In North Dakota, the small grain harvest is nearing completion while the harvesting of sunflower began during the wheat. 72{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of silage corn has been chopped.
76{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of South Dakota’s winter wheat is seeded and 91{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the corn for silage has been harvested.
