July 25 Declared National Day of the American Cowboy

Washington, D.C. – In a tribute to the hard working men and women that helped establish the American West, the U.S. Senate has declared July 25, 2015 National Day of the American Cowboy. Representing the Cowboy State, U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., introduced this resolution that the Senate passed unanimously. 

Started in 2005 by U.S. Senator Craig Thomas, Enzi and Barrasso have continued the tradition of introducing the legislation each year to coincide with Cheyenne Frontier Days. According to Enzi and Barrasso, the resolution is about honoring a culture of traditions and values that is still alive today.

The resolutions states, “The cowboy embodies honesty, integrity, courage, compassion, respect, a strong work ethic, and patriotism.”

Senators Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., John Hoeven, R-N.D., James Inhofe, R-Okla., James Lankford, R-Okla., Jim Risch, R-Idaho, Mike Rounds, R-S.D., Jon Tester, D-Mont. and John Thune, R-S.D., are cosponsors of the resolution.
