Back in mid-December, the USDA announced that it had made available the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for Roundup Ready alfalfa. The statement evaluates the potential environmental effects of deregulating the genetically engineered crop. Along with that statement came a public comment period which expires today.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to the House Agriculture Committee on Thursday that a decision on the regulatory status of the crop will come “very, very shortly” after this comment period comes to an end.
