What are the chances? Apparently about 175 million to one. Yet, 52-year-old Hillshire Brands meat plant worker Mark Hill and his wife Cindy in Dearborn, Mo., beat the odds with one of two winning tickets for the $580 million Powerball jackpot, according to media reports.

The Hills chose to take their winnings in a lump sum. The oversized novelty check handed to the couple on Friday was written in the amount of $293,750,000, but Missouri Lottery spokeswoman Susan Goedde said that after taxes, they will receive about $136.5 million.

Hill's supervisor at Hillshire Brands, where Hill worked as a mechanic at the St. Joseph, Mo. plant, was in disbelief when he called to say he would not be returning to work because he had won the lottery, Hill said in a television interview.

The couple has two grown sons and a six-year-old adopted daughter from China. She wants a pony. Hill has his eye on a red Camaro.
