Young Farmer and Rancher Ag Tour slated for Billings area in early May
The Montana Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) Committee is hosting a regional agricultural tour May 8-9, 2015 in Billings. The YF&R Ag Tour, based out of the Big Horn Resort, provides a great opportunity to visit local farms, ranches and agri-businesses with plenty of time to network with fellow young farmers and ranchers.
Tour stops Friday include the Stovall Ranch (cattle), a tour of ORIgen (cattle genetics) and a tour and tasting at Yellowstone Cellars & Winery. Dinner that night is scheduled for the Montana Rib & Chop House with Michelle Dammen, Agri-Trend, speaking on ways to help reduce the risk of ag market volatility for your farm and ranch operations.
Saturday’s tours include a visit to the Hollenbeck Ranch (sheep) and Safflower Technologies (safflower products including oil, birdseed and kitty litter). Drange Apiary (raising bees and bee products) is the next tour stop followed by lunch and a tour of the Special K Ranch (a working ranch for adults who have developmental disabilities).
Registration is $75 per person/$140 per couple with all meals and activities included. Attendees must make their own hotel reservation. Contact the Big Horn Resort at (406) 839-9300 and request the “Montana Farm Bureau room block” for the special $99 conference rate. Be sure to book your room by May 1. The tour is open to anyone ages 18-35 with an interest in agriculture. Seats are limited to the first 40 people.
