MSU Rodeo Team Welcomes New Facility

by Brett McRae

The Montana State University Rodeo team is getting ready for the spring season and now, student athletes have a new facility to practice and board livestock and horses. Last fall the MSU Rodeo Team found a permanent home at the Stock Family MSU Rodeo Facility in Belgrade. Formerly the VL arena the facility has been renovated to meet the needs for Bobcat student athletes, and supporters have plans for more improvements in the future.

In the past, student athletes had to shuttle livestock and horses between different practice and boarding facilities but the new arena has it all in one.

Shawn Koenig is a member of the MSU Rodeo Chute Boss Club that helps support the rodeo team. He says the facility is a valuable asset for MSU rodeo team members.

“The stock family bobcat arena as it’s known, is located out on Spain Bridge Road, on the north side of Belgrade so its fairly convenient for where a lot of kids live…We have a number of students who keep their horses out at the facility and we have an indoor arena there as well as an outdoor arena.”

Local businesses and the chute boss club helped raise money and renovate the facility, while Montana State University and the MSU Alumni Foundation each made sizable contributions towards the purchase of the facility.
