NCBA Governance Structure Discussion On Pause

This week the Cattlemen’s Beef Board Executive Committee started a storm in the industry when it released its approved motion calling for the Federation of State Beef Councils to be a “strong, independent checkoff entity” that should be “separate from any policy organization.”

After that statement came out, Scott George, Chairman of the Federation of State Beef Councils and a dairy and beef producer from Cody, Wyoming, made a big announcement in a press conference on Friday.

The other three participants on the press conference panel, representing the Washington State Beef Commission, the Illinois Beef Association and the Texas Beef Council all expressed concern with the CBB Executive Committee’s recommendation.

Scott George was asked whether the quality collaboration that the NCBA and the Federation currently enjoy would be possible if the Federation was its own separate entity.
