Heitkamp, ranchers to host panel on impact of low prices in N.D. cattle industry
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, North Dakota cattle ranchers, and industry leaders will meet at the Stockmen’s Livestock Exchange East Barn at 9: 45 a.m. (Mountain Time) May 20 in Dickinson, N.D., for a panel discussion and question and answer session on how the low cattle prices are affecting ranchers and the livestock industry. Panel members are Heitkamp, Justin Lumpkin, U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service; Larry Schnell, Stockmen’s Livestock Exchange; Dale Christman, North Dakota cattle buyer; Dave Lehman, Chicago Mercantile Exchange; Larry Kinev, President of I-BAND; and Steve Brooks, president of North Dakota Stockmen’s Association. The group will seek potential ways to address the issue of low cattle prices. North Dakota’s cattle industry has seen uncertainty and losses as a result of recent market volatility.
