In the days leading up to Christmas, R-CALF USA has put out a series of 10 press releases all linked to their “10 Days of Opposition to USDA’s Proposed Mandatory Animal Identification Rule” campaign.
Haylie Shipp spoke with Bill Bullard, CEO of R-CALF USA, about the reason for this staged release.
Among the group’s arguments against this traceability proposal are liability concerns for the cow/calf producer, putting responsibility on a farmer or rancher for a disease the government allowed in, the money involved in implementing the system and the non-acceptance of the hot iron brand as an official identification for cattle. The USDA is currently reviewing the public comments that they received and have not yet come out with an official rule.
