The 6,700-acre Riverbend Ranch near Laramie, listed at $8.5 million, recently sold to a Texas couple looking to beat the summer heat. The sale of the ranch, which was owned by the University of Wyoming Foundation after it was donated to the school, will help fund UW’s agriculture programs, according to the real-estate company that sold it.

James Rinehart, owner of Western United Realty LLC that sold the ranch, said the ranch represented a challenging sale. It had been on the market for three years at what he called a discounted price for the size and recreation opportunities available because of a conservation easement that makes it impossible to traditionally develop. While recreational or agricultural operations will be developed on the ranch – there were many restrictions that pushed some buyers away.
