A Pennsylvania dairy is cashing in on retiring cows and male calves.
Would you pay more for your milk if it was coming from a “protected” cow? That's what one Pennsylvania dairy is hoping. The Gita Nagari Creamery is now charging $10/gallon for its protected cow milk.
While a highly elevated price, $2.50 of that goes into a “cow retirement fee” and another $1.50 goes towards “boy calf care.”
It's a small dairy with around 60 head of cattle. Reportedly more than half of those are retired.
