Society of Range Management Summer Tour

by

The IMS Summer tour will be on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

The tour will take in a good portion of the Seiben Ranch, which is approximately 20 miles north of Helena, Montana. The ranch looks really good this year.

The ranch is located adjacent to the I-15 interstate, and the buildings are west of the I-15.
There is a “Seiben” turn-off on I-15, from the north or the south.

The Sieben Ranch is an old ranch that is rich in history. It has produced sheep as well as cattle over the years.
The ranch has been put into a conservation easement with Montana Fish, Game & Parks, who will be joining us for the tour. Topics – Bears, wolves, elk, livestock grazing, fire and history.
On the ranch, only self-contained camping units are permitted, as there are no outhouse facilities.

Just a few miles down the road is the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness Area, right on the Missouri River. The Gates of the Mountains Wilderness Area has some camping sites, and boat tours along the river are also available. Call 406-449-5490 for more information.

Other nearby campsites are the Vigilante Campground and the Houlter Lake Campground in the National Forest. Sites at these campgrounds are serviced. The number for Houlter Lake is 406-533-7600.

On Saturday, the tour starts at 9 a.m. at the Sieben Ranch Buildings just west of the I- 15.

Contact Dennis Phillippi for more information or to register at 406-581-4330, or watch the IMS website.
