OMAHA (DTN) — Weekly crop progress and condition estimates released by USDA Monday were neutral for corn, bearish for soybeans and bullish for wheat, according to DTN Senior Analyst Darin Newsom.

The nation's corn crop was 90{ba1edae1e6da4446a8482f505d60d3b8e379ff6dedafe596d9ba4611a4e33a48} in the dough stage as of August 31, compared to 83{ba1edae1e6da4446a8482f505d60d3b8e379ff6dedafe596d9ba4611a4e33a48} last week and a 5-year average of 89{ba1edae1e6da4446a8482f505d60d3b8e379ff6dedafe596d9ba4611a4e33a48}. “As expected, corn's crop conditions showed improvement the week ending Sunday, August 31,” said Newsom. “This led to a DTN Crop Condition Index rating of 180 points, up 2 points from the previous report. These numbers should be viewed as neutral, with bearish conditions offset by slightly bullish maturity estimates.”

“Soybean crop conditions improved last week, possibly a bit of a surprise to the market,” Newsom said. “These better condition numbers resulted in a DTN Crop Condition Index rating of 177 points, up 5 points from the previous week. These reports could be viewed as bearish for new-crop soybeans.”
