The National Finals Breakaway Roping Kicks-Off in Las Vegas

by Grace McDonald

The number one ranked cowgirl coming into the National Finals Breakaway Roping (NFBR)
holds that position after the first day of roping in Las Vegas, and she is Shelby Boisjoli-Meged.
She caught four of the first five calves, splitting the 2nd round win with Hali Williams and
finishing out the day with a dominating 5th round win. “It felt amazing, to have my family here
was just the cherry on top,” said Meged. You might recognize Shelby’s new last name as she
recently married Miles City, MT cowboy and world champion tie-down roper, Haven Meged.

Shelby Boisjoli-Meged keeps her #1 position with a solid first day of the NFBR roping 4 of the 5 calves.

Rounds 5-10 finish out the NFBR today and Shelby has her eyes on the gold buckle all while
keeping it simple. “My game plan is going to stay the same, I just want to hit the barrier and
catch the neck,” explained Meged, who added another $16,379 to her earnings yesterday by
doing just that. Meged didn’t get to the NFBR by herself though. The horsepower underneath
her, “Onna” was named the 2023 Nutrena Breakaway Roping Horse of the Year, Presented by
AQHA. “She’s been really good and just gets better with every run,” said Meged.

The Volborg, Montana cowgirl made her presence known in the 3rd round of the NFBR. Joey Williams split 2nd place with a 2.1 second run.

Joey Williams, Volborg, MT cowgirl is all smiles after her 2.1 second run to split 2nd in round 3 of the NFBR.

The final day of the NFBR starts at 2pm PST as the top 15 cowgirls make their final push of the season and attempt to make those gold buckle dreams come true. Watch the action live at: https://wranglernetwork.com/portfolio-view/2023-national-finals-breakaway-roping-tuesday/.
