Time is Running Out to Submit Comments on Sheep Station

by

The U.S. sheep industry continues to lobby members of Congress and the USDA to keep the U.S. sheep experiment station open in Dubois, Idaho.

In June, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack sent a letter to members of the House Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies outlining the USDA's proposal to close the station by November because of budgetary issues and lack of funding. However, members of the subcommittee rejected Vilsack's plan.

Last week two virtual listening sessions were held to gather public input on whether the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station should be closed or remain open.

Comments will be accepted thru the close of business August 14, 2014. To submit your comments, email them to USSES@ars.usda.gov.
