It’s going to be a big week for U.S. Agriculture in Washington DC. The confirmation and swearing in of Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Ag. and a Presidential Executive Order to aid rural America.

Jerry Hagstrom writes for DTN that “With the 100th day of the Trump presidency looming next Saturday, a White House official said, “Throughout this week, President Trump will continue to deliver on his promises to the American people, from thinking big about exploration and discovery again, to protecting the farmers and ranchers that feed our country, to reasserting American power on the world stage.”

On Tuesday, the president “will host a roundtable discussion with farmers and sign an executive order to protect and provide relief for rural America,” the official added.

Sources in the White House describe the “Executive Order Promoting Agriculture and Rural Prosperity in America”: “The Agriculture and Rural Task Force Executive Order creates an interagency task force to examine the concerns of rural America and suggest legislative and regulatory changes to address them.”

Politico Morning Agriculture reports that “The Obama administration largely ignored the needs of rural America and imposed unnecessary regulations which created significant burdens for rural businesses. The Agriculture and Rural Task Force Executive Order creates an interagency task force to examine the concerns of rural America and suggest legislative and regulatory changes to address them.”

These moves are creating more optimism in rural America in that the president will support agriculture. Recently, President Trump committed to the U.S. dairy industry that he will work on their behalf to bring fairness to what he calls unfair treatment by Canada for new polices that affect U.S. dairy producers.
