PHOTO OF PEOPLE SITTING IN FRONT OF THRASHER WITH GRAIN SACKS
Before farmers contracted out their combining or rode in air-conditioned combines of their own to harvest their crops, people had to do a lot of the work that machines do now. This threshing crew took time out in 1912 for frontier photographer Evelyn Cameron to take their photo. They were Cameron’s neighbors in the Terry area. The threshing machine is in the background. The crew had to hand-feed cut wheat into the thresher and bag the separated grain into the gunny sacks also in the photo. It was a hot and dirty job, but somebody had to do it!
