A Hyattville grower took home best of show and champion alfalfa hay honors on Aug. 11 at the 2015 Wyoming State Fair Hay Show in Douglas.
Dave Greer won the annual competition, which is sponsored by the Wyoming Business Council.
Other champions included Wheatland's Kellie Hinman for her mixed hay and Yoder's Bob Baumgartner for his grass hay.
David Hinman, of Wheatland, earned the nod for open hay show premier exhibitor.
Forage samples are cored and sent to a lab in Nebraska for analysis of their nutritional value. The judge then rates the forage's physical traits – like color, stem size and leaf quality.
The winners will join four other Wyoming competitors at the World’s Forage Analysis Super Bowl at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. Greer, David and Kellie Hinman, Harlan Fegler and Clint Anderson will show their alfalfa. Baumgartner, David and Kellie Hinman, Kennedy Gormley and Gerry Danko will show their grass hay.
Steve Martin, of Dairy Nutrition Management Consulting in Fort Collins, judged the contest.
