Young Stockgrowers Teach Old Dogs New Tricks


Imagine, a room filled with members of the Montana Young Stockgrowers whose main mission of the day is to teach you social media!  That is the reality at the midyear meeting for the Montana Stockgrowers this year in Bozeman. 

This year’s “Digital Café” has been labeled as the place to learn about social media.  While many ranchers are using Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets to get their message out, there is plenty of room for growth.  Lauren Chase, MSGA Multimedia Outreach Specialist, has been busy answering questions from members and signing up ranchers.

If you’ve ever questioned how good of an avenue social media can be for getting agriculture’s true story out there, think about these statistics:

  • Facebook has more than 500 million active users.
  • 50{dfeadfe70caf58f453a47791a362966239aaa64624c42b982d70b175f7e3dda2} of the active users log on to Facebook in any given day.
  • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.
  • There are more than 250 million active users currently accessing Facebok through their mobile devices.
