Astronaut Addresses Farmers in Phoenix

by

Dr. Jemison told Bayer CropScience Ag Issues Forum attendees that she got her start in science and Ag by making mud pies as a kid in Chicago. She said children do or are part of Agriculture early on; they just don’t know it. That’s why the Ag Industry needs to engage kids early to educate them on the importance of Agriculture. She also emphasized that space exploration and Agriculture are a lot a like. They are the oldest known sciences.

Dr. Jemison served as six years as a NASA Astronaut studying life science and the human body in space. She is currently leading “100 Year Starship”, an initiative seed-funded by the Department of Defense’s Defense working on Advanced Research Project Agency, to assure that the capability for human interstellar space travel to another star is possible within the next 100 years.
