North Dakota State University’s Dickinson Research Extension Center (DREC) will host a soil health restoration workshop on Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. MST.
The workshop will focus on the components of soil health and how soil health impacts the region. It will include demonstrations on water infiltration and a soil pit will be excavated to closely observe soil structure.
The workshop also will feature a demonstration of cover crop work being done by the DREC on property west of the new CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson.
Workshop topics and speakers are:
Water quality: Improvement of water infiltration into soil, Jon Stika, DREC scientist
Air quality: Effects of cropping systems on erosion, Ryan Buetow, DREC area Extension agronomist
Soil health: Influence of plants and soil biology on soil structure, Stika and Kurt Froelich, NDSU Extension Service agent in Stark and Billings counties
The workshop will be held south of I-94, exit 59, on the east side of the I-94 business loop.
