USCA to Testify on State of Industry, Markets

WASHINGTON (May 23, 2016) – The United States Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) will testify this week in the Senate hearing, “A Review of the U.S. Livestock and Poultry Sectors: Marketplace Opportunities and Challenges”.  Joe Goggins, Billings, Montana, will testify on behalf of USCA.

Goggins will join panelists from National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National Turkey Federation, National Pork Producers Council, and the United Egg Producers.

USCA Director Emeritus Leo McDonnell commented on Goggins’ testimony this week, “Cattle producers will be well represented having Joe Goggins testifying on their behalf. There is a strong legacy here in this family for the values of care for family businesses, community, and country. Also, the knowledge of the diversity in various production sectors that Joe brings is unparalleled.”

USCA President Danni Beer commented on the hearing, “This week’s hearing provides an opportunity to examine the many successes and challenges in today’s livestock industry.  As discussions on trade, animal health and the state of the cattle market continue, we must take into account the achievements since the 2014 Farm Bill implementation and what opportunities lie ahead as we prepare for the next one. Successes in conservation programs and private-public partnerships deterring species listings, and responsive disaster relief efforts, must be highlighted and encouraged as these discussions take place.”

“The last 5 years in this industry makes one thing is clear, livestock producers continue to find means to overcome and capitalize on challenges.  As we review the industry and its current state, we will continue to find opportunities.”

McDonnell reiterated the importance of USCA’s upcoming testimony, “Goggins’ testimony will focus on the highs and lows of the cattle market and its influencing factors.  From farm bill programs to trade and animal health, the factors and fundamentals influencing the industry remain constant, however, their recent contributions to the current marketplace volatility warrants a review.”

You may watch the full hearing proceedings live HERE on Thursday, May 26th, starting at 10:00am EDT.
