The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2024 Communications Award winners were named at this year’s Communications Conference in Waco, Texas, and included 16 standout states. The competition recognizes state Farm Bureau professionals from across the country for their exceptional work in communications.
For Montana Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF), they earned best in the nation awards in three separate categories. That included Rebecca Colnar MFBF Director of Media Relations and Publication’s for Best Agriculture Story, Colnar and designer Bobbi Burrow for Best Magazine, and Sue Ann Streufert, Nicole Rolf, and Rachel Cone for Best Graphic Design.
Colnar spoke to Northern Ag Network’s Andy Schwab and humbly gave the credit to the team at MFBF for the awards.
“It’s very exciting because some of the other Farm Bureau’s use some other agencies to do their magazines, but aside from our magazine designer Bobbi Burrow, we do everything in house, the writing, the editing, the columns, and the photography, so it’s really exciting to not have a communication staff of eight or nine people, and so to be recognized is really exciting and rewarding,” said Colnar. She added, “It makes you feel like your hard work is worth it.”
Participants could submit one entry per category, with 18 categories to choose from, in the areas of writing, print, media relations, social media, graphic design, video, audio and website. More than 200 entries for work produced in 2023 were submitted for the 2024 contest.
“Our state Farm Bureau communicators are dedicated to sharing the voices of farm and ranch families across the country,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “The work of our communicators is second to none and I’m proud of them for continually evolving to keep pace with the rapidly changing communications field. Congratulations to the winning states and my thanks to all Farm Bureau communicators.”
Each award is divided into groups based on membership size with up to three winners possible per category. The number of winners per category is based on the number of submissions received for the division.
