Montana Receives Presidential Disaster Declaration

by

The following is from the Office of Governor Brian Schweitzer:

On July 26th Governor Schweitzer sent a letter asking President Obama to declare a Presidential Disaster for the area impacted by the Ash Creek Fire. The request was limited to damages to public infrastructure that occurred in Powder River and Rosebud Counties and at the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Letter can be found here: http://governor.mt.gov/news/pr.asp?ID=1066

The preliminary damage assessment conducted by FEMA in cooperation with local, state and tribal officials, estimates damages at $1.6 million, the bulk of which reflects costs incurred by the Tongue River Electric Co-op to its infrastructure in the area. Additional damages to property owned by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe are estimated at nearly $20,000.

Montana received the declaration today. The Declared Summary Sheet from FEMA is attached.
