In the past, the Montana Disaster Emergency Services office maintained a website dedicated to connecting ranchers with critical resources like hay, trucking, and emergency supplies during times of fire or drought. When that service was discontinued, a major gap was left for ag producers trying to navigate increasingly unpredictable weather and economic challenges.
Recognizing how essential that tool was for ranching communities, Western Sustainability Exchange stepped in to fill the void. Working with a range of partners the Hay Hotline has been revitalized and expanded into the Mountain West Grazing Connection platform.
Now, ranchers across Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho can access and post FREE listings for hay, pasture leases, and grazing opportunities, all in one central location. Whether you’re looking for feed during a drought, seeking land for your herd, or offering resources to fellow producers, Mountain West Grazing Connection is here to help.
The Mountain West Grazing Connection was funded through the WSARE project “Integrating Livestock into Cropping Systems and the Impacts on Soil Health” and was spearheaded by employees of Montana State University and the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT).
In 2024, Western Sustainability Exchange took over hosting the app as part of their regenerative ranching programming. WSE, is a non-profit based in Livingston, MT that works with ranchers throughout the Northern Great Plains to improve their grazing management.
