National Water Quality Initiative Conference Call – 6/29/2016
Using the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has spent the last 2-3 years working with individual landowners, the Broadwater Conservation District, and other federal, state, and local partners on an intensive project to address agricultural contributions to water quality impairments in the Deep Creek watershed near Townsend. This incredible effort has improved irrigation efficiency and farm management for local producers, restored stream flow for aquatic animals, and led to removal of a DEQ-identified impairment listing. The Deep Creek project is currently in its final year, and NRCS is soliciting ideas for the next (2017) NWQI watershed(s).
Please reserve June 29th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM to dial into a teleconference (888‐844‐9904; Access Code: 5451842) and discuss Montana watersheds that you feel provide the best opportunity for water quality improvements under the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI). This will be a joint conference call between NRCS State Office staff and the WAWG, and will be open to the public. If you have any technical questions, please contact Kale Gullett, MT NRCS State Resource Conservationist at 406.587.6998. For Program questions, please contact Erik Suffridge, Montana NRCS Assistant State Conservationist for Programs at 406.587.6873.
