Northern Livestock Video Auction started off their 15th year with their Early Summer Special at the Billings Livestock Commission on June 28th. The picture of what calves are going to be worth this year is starting to clear up but there are still a lot of questions out there.
USDA increased its estimate of corn acres, surprising the market and significantly pulling down the price of corn, which could improve the outlook for feed costs and cost of gain.
21,000 head of cattle were offered in the sale with the vast majority of them coming out of Montana and Wyoming.
Joe Goggins took a couple of minutes away from the sale to give us his thoughts on this market and just how far video sales have come since his father Pat first thought of it.
The market was significantly stronger on the bigger calves with the heavier 6 and 7 weight steers doing the best. A definite premium showing up again for those program cattle as well.
Northern Livestock Video will hold its next sale the 2019 Summertime Classic July 22nd through the 24th at the Billings Livestock Commission. The consignment deadline for that sale is Friday, July 5th.
