R-Calf Turned Away from Industry Group Meeting

by

Last week, R-Calf USA came out with a statement that they had received a letter from members of the Beef Checkoff Industry group saying that they were not invited to attend a meeting of the group held Monday in Denver.

A recently filed lawsuit against the Checkoff by R-CALF member Mike Callicrate was cited as the reason for the rejection.  The suit seeks to eliminate the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association as the contractor to the Beef Checkoff.

According to R-CALF's Joel Gill, they have in the past participated in these Beef Industry Input Group meetings and they fired back a letter saying their objective was misconstrued, arguing they did not say they were planning to join Callicrate’s lawsuit.'

Despite the non-invition to the meetings recieved last week, Gill found himself in Denver yesterday where he was turned away.

Gill says he intends to make his feelings known to the group through a letter and says their purpose really should be to improve the checkoff.
