While it’s been a long and trying spring for folks in our region, some of our areas crops are reaching the end point of the season.
Winter wheat harvested was reported at 81{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} nationally, compared to the average of 86{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} in Monday’s USDA Crop Progress Report. That harvest is now 72{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} complete in South Dakota compared to last week’s 29{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3}. Thirty-five percent of Wyoming winter wheat has now been harvested, up from last week’s 1{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3}. The winter wheat harvest has also begun in Montana with 2{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} harvested.
On a national level, spring wheat condition dropped from 5{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} very poor to poor last week to 7{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} this week. Eighteen percent of the crop is now turning color in North Dakota as well as 8{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} of Montana’s and 33{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} of Wyoming’s. Spring wheat harvest in South Dakota is 11{e7e4ba4d9a3c939171d79cae1e3a0df1d41e5a91c3c4158fbb92284b490bc9d3} complete.
