According to an email received by Northern Ag Network on Monday evening, Governor Brian Schweitzer has “requested the DOI (Department of the Interior) assist in relocating to DOI lands in Montana some of the Turner Green Ranch bison that have satisfied the quarantine protocol.”
The statement comes in a May 2012 memorandum (READ IT HERE) from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. It’s titled “Directive on the Placement of Yellowstone Bison” and it is outlined that through this directive, “the Directors of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and NPS (National Park Service) will evaluate the feasibility of using lands managed by DOI in Montana for relocation of bison currently quarantined at the Turner Green Ranch.”
The memorandum has not yet been verified by the Department of the Interior as one of their documents. Keep checking back to NorthernAg.NET for the latest.
