SD Stockgrowers Prepare to Celebrate 125th Annual Convention

The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association will celebrate the organization's 125th Annual Convention on September 22 and 23, 2016 in Rapid City, SD.   Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in the celebration themed, “Old Hats and New Boots” to honor the history and celebrate the future of the South Dakota livestock industry.

The Convention will feature several opportunities to celebrate the history and past of the organization as well as to honor the leaders of the organization including recognition of past presidents, board members, and staff.   Speakers will present throughout both days, and include Bill Bullard of R-CALF USA, Beth Adamson discussing multi-generational family business planning, Brian Fuchs of the USDA Drought Monitor, SD Game Fish and Parks, and several other important topics.

The SD Stockgrowers Association began in 1880, when Dakota Territory livestock producers started  organizing on issues such as livestock branding, land ownership, and railroad development. The first, formal meetings of the association began in 1891, and the Western South Dakota Stockgrowers Association was certified in 1893 under the leadership of Frank Stewart and Scotty Philip.   The name was changed to the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association in 1937.

Registration forms and details about the convention schedule will be available on the SD Stockgrowers Association website by visiting www.southdakotastockgrowers.org or by calling the office at 605-342-0429.
