The Golden Days of Mining in Montana

These freight wagons were lined up at the Alder Gulch Mill in 1908 after hauling ore from the Alabama Mine, one of the rich gold deposits  in Granite County Montana.  The largest load of the day was hauled by freighter Tim Hartman totaling 24,400 pounds. The gold is long gone, but the tailings still remain.
