The following is a press release from Congressman Denny Rehberg:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today announced that his legislation, the Montana Land Sovereignty Act, H.R. 845, will be the subject of a legislative hearing in the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands on Tuesday, September 13, 2011.  The hearing will address a series of bills intended to protect Western States, including Montana, from unilateral designation of new National Monuments by the Obama Administration.

“Until Congress acts, Montanans will continue to be at risk of unilateral designations for new National Monuments without any public input or feedback,” said Rehberg.  “In 2001, Montana learned this lesson the hard way when folks woke up one morning to find President Clinton had created the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument with the stroke of a pen and no meaningful public input.  This isn’t about preventing future Monument designations, it’s about making sure those designations aren’t forced on people who frankly don’t want or need them.  I appreciate Chairman Rob Bishop for his leadership on this issue and for including my legislation in his hearing.”

Rehberg’s legislation was introduced earlier this year.  Read the
