WY Senate Supports Keeping Raw Milk In Food Bill

The Wyoming Senate has rejected an amendment that would ban the sale of un-pasteurized milk during second reading debate over the Food Freedom Act. The legislation would allow farmers and ranchers to sell unregulated food products to consumers. Casper Senator Charles Scott attempted to remove milk from the bill. Scott says a number of diseases can come from unpasteurized milk sold on a widespread scale.

“We ought to regulate it so that the current practices can continue.  They’re at a small enough scale that they aren’t gonna cause any trouble.  But you get selling wide-scale raw milk you are going to have trouble.  This is one place where we ought to pay attention to the public health people.”

Senator Ogden Driskill says consumers want the product and will continue to buy it on the black market.
