A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows salmonella cases are on the rise due to more people keeping and raising chickens. But, just how are these people getting salmonella from a chicken, you might ask?
An alarming number of people have apparently contracted salmonella from kissing their chickens. According to the CDC's research, some 13{75e25ebeb47fb4337942be2c10689dca1c292c2a66240b62c5ca4214f5b25ecc} of the chicken-related salmonella cases they studied from 1990 to 2014 were due, in part, to the chicken owners snuggling and smooching on their feathered friends.
The CDC says, “Most contact occurred at the patients' home, and high-risk behaviors included keeping poultry inside the house and having close contact, such as holding, snuggling, or kissing poultry.”
A whopping 46{75e25ebeb47fb4337942be2c10689dca1c292c2a66240b62c5ca4214f5b25ecc} of the CDC's respondents kept chickens in the house. And that's not all. Some 10{75e25ebeb47fb4337942be2c10689dca1c292c2a66240b62c5ca4214f5b25ecc} of respondents said they kept chickens in their bedroom.
