DEER LODGE — Four calves died in a shed fire at the Montana State Prison dairy operation near Deer Lodge early Monday, according to the prison.
The blaze was reported at about 6:15 a.m. The building was used as a calving shed. The fire was contained to the 20 x 20 building.
The fire was started by a heat lamp catching straw on fire, the spokeswoman said. The calves were less and two months old.
