BILLINGS — Two adult male grizzly bears that had been killing calves on a private ranch southeast of Red Lodge were euthanized Friday.
Depredation by the bears first was reported about a week ago, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wildlife biologist Shawn Stewart said. Federal Wildlife Services trappers, with assistance from FWP, set traps for the bears and were able to capture them Thursday night in the vicinity of the depredation.
Both bears were taken to Bozeman, where they were euthanized Friday.
Wildlife officials often are reluctant to relocate male adult grizzly bears that have killed cattle because of their potential to continue depredation.
