Montana Dairy Industry Tackles Proposed Inspection Fee Increase

by

The Montana Department of Livestock (DOL) held a town hall meeting in Bozeman today to discuss proposed changes to the dairy inspection fees.

Current fees have been insufficient to maintain the program and the program is currently struggling with a $130,000 budget shortfall, so finding an alternative to keep the program funded is important.

Those who attending the meeting today had the opportunity for their voices to be heard and shared their solutions to fix the financial shortfall through the rule making process.

Northern Ag's Lane Nordlund attended the meeting today and spoke with Marty Zaluski, the Department of Livestock interim executive officer about the changes.  Lane also spoke with several people who attended the meeting on their thoughts about the proposed changes and what solutions they felt the DOL should pursue.
