University of Wyoming Swing Club Attempts World Record

University of Wyoming Cowboy Country Swing Club is attempting to break the Guinness world record for the world’s largest swing dance.

April 16, 2015 — Want to have a good time dancing and be a part of a world record at the same time? Then join the University of Wyoming Cowboy Country Swing Club as it attempts to break the Guinness world record for the world’s largest swing dance Thursday, April 30, at 8 p.m. at UW’s War Memorial Fieldhouse.

Check-in for the free event is at 7:30 p.m.  Cowboy Country Swing Club President Hunter Perala says the current swing dance record is 756 participants, considerably more dancers than the 250 or so who participate in the club’s Thursday night outings with live bands in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.

How can you help?
All you have to do is show up, check-in, and dance for five minutes. Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band will be the entertainment for the evening, playing the music during the record-break and staying until 11 p.m. Once the five minutes of organized dancing for the record is complete, people can stay for hours of free dancing and a night of great, alcohol-free fun.

“We provide free lessons from 8-9 p.m., and free open dancing from 9-11 p.m.,” Perala says. “Everyone has a great time. We are one of the largest recognized student organizations on campus.”
